The University of Arkansas Department of Mathematical Sciences is
hosting the 46th Annual Spring Lecture Series virtually during the
week April 5-9, 2021.

David Keyes, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computational
Science and the Director of the Extreme Computing Research Center at
KAUST, will deliver lectures on "Scalable Solvers: Universals and
Innovations".

In addition, there will be ten talks by invited speakers: Zhaojun Bai
(University of California Davis); Xiao-Chuan Cai (University of
Colorado Boulder); Edmond Chow (Georgia Institute of Technology); Jack
Dongarra (University of Tennessee); Laura Grigori (INRIA Paris); Ilse
Ipsen (North Carolina State University); Xiaoye Sherry Li (Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory); Carol Woodward (Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory); Ulrike Meier Yang (Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory); Rio Yokota (Tokyo Institute of Technology)

The talks will be held from 9:00am to 12:30pm CDT.

Additionally, we will have an outreach component in the form of a
public lecture, which is intended for the community at large and will
be given by Ann Almgren, a senior scientist and the group leader of
the Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering in the
Department of Applied Mathematics at the Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory. We will also use the series to strengthen the female side
of the mathematical sciences with a "Women in STEM" panel
discussion. The goal of the panel discussion is to provide an
environment that will facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences
with the women panelists.

Subject: Cancellation, Biennial Conference in NA, Glasgow, Jun 2021


It is with great regret that we have had to cancel the Biennial
Conference in Numerical Analysis due to take place at the University
of Strathclyde in June. It has been clear for a while that the
prospect of being able to hold a large in-person meeting in the UK is
not realistic until well beyond the summer, but we have held on on the
off-chance of a sudden change.

While we remain hopeful that the worst of the pandemic is behind us,
we decided not to jeopardise the safety and comfort of the delegates
and run unnecessary risks. We value greatly the tradition of this
meeting, with social interactions at its heart, and thus we don't feel
it would be well served by holding a virtual replacement. Instead, we
aim to be back in 2023, and we really look forward to meeting our
friends and colleagues in two years' time!

The local organizing committee of the IFIP TC7 conference on System
Modelling and Optimization decided to extend the deadline for
minisymposium proposals to March 26, 2021.

The 29th edition of the IFIP TC7 conference on System Modelling and
Optimization will be organized in virtual format, from August 30th to
September 3th 2021, by the Research Center for Math. Modelling
(MODEMAT), Escuela Politecnica Nacional, Ecuador. The highly-regarded
conference series covers topics such as: Modeling and Simulation;
Continuous, Discrete, and Stochastic Optimization; Optimal Control;
Inverse Problems; Imaging Science.

Minisymposium proposals (4 talks per session, one or more sessions)
