The IMA is pleased to announce the Seventh Biennial IMA Conference on
Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimization. The success of modern
codes for large-scale optimization is heavily dependent on the use of
effective tools of numerical linear algebra. On the other hand, many
problems in numerical linear algebra lead to linear, nonlinear or
semidefinite optimization problems. The purpose of the conference is
to bring together researchers from both communities and to find and
communicate points and topics of common interest. This Conference has
been organised in cooperation with the Society for Industrial and
Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
Conference topics include any subject that could be of interest to
both communities, such as: Direct and iterative methods for large
sparse linear systems; Eigenvalue computation and optimization;
Large-scale nonlinear and semidefinite programming; Effect of
round-off errors, stopping criteria, embedded iterative procedures;
Optimization issues for matrix polynomials; Fast matrix computations;
Compressed/sparse sensing; PDE-constrained optimization; Distributed
computing and optimization; Applications and real time optimization.

(Graduiertenkolleg) Stochastic Analysis in Interaction Reference
number: II-937/19 (starting at 01/04/20 / until 31/03/23 / closing
date for applications 20/01/20)
Working field: Our PhD projects in stochastic analysis span from
fundamental mathematical questions to applications in Biology, Data
Science and Statistics, Finance, and Physics. Jointly supervised by
leading experts from Berlin and Oxford, the Berlin IRTG students will
form a team with a similarly large number of students on the Oxford
side, supported, e.g., by the Centre for Doctoral Training
"Mathematics of Random Systems".
Requirements: successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom
or equivalent) in Mathematics or closely related disciplines strong
knowledge of stochastic analysis; good command of English or German,
together with good academic writing and presentation skills required;
the willingness to learn either English or German is expected;
eagerness to engage in exchange with Oxford partners, also during a
six months research visit in Oxford. More information can be obtained
from Prof. Dr. Bank (irtg2544@math.tu-berlin.de, Internet:
https://www.math.tu-berlin.de/IRTG/).
Please send your application with the reference number II-937/19 and
the usual documents (in particular short motivation letter, complete
and up-to-date curriculum vitae, names and contact details of at least
2 references whose letters should be available by the deadline of this
call, Bachelor's and Master's transcripts, certificates (with grades),
Masterss and Bachelor's thesis (if available)) preferably in English
as a single electronic document (pdf file) to irtg2544@math.tu-berlin.de
or in writing to Technische Universitat Berlin - Der Prasident -
