Julia codes available for textbook, Fundamentals of Numerical Computation
I have translated into Julia all 45 functions and 160+ examples from
the textbook Fundamentals of Numerical Computation (SIAM), co-authored
by Rich Braun and me.

The codes cover at an advanced undergraduate level the basics of dense
matrix factorizations, rootfinding and nonlinear least-squares,
interpolation, initial-value problems, EVD and SVD, Krylov iterations,
boundary-value problems, and the method of lines for PDEs.

The Julia codes adopt some of the more important language features,
such as comprehensions, but they are largely vanilla transliterations
of the original MATLAB codes. They do call on some well-established
packages such as Interpolations and DifferentialEquations as
complements to the basic algorithms presented. The examples do not
include the context from the text but should be typically
understandable to experienced computational scientists.

Workshop "Scientific computation using machine-learning algorithms:

MAC-MIGS is a new UKRI/EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in
Mathematical Modelling, Analysis and Computation addressed to the
formulation, analysis and implementation of state-of-the-art
mathematical and computational models and methods. It will recruit
approximately 15 PhD students each year from 2019 to 2024. MAC-MIGS
will train experts who can develop and analyse mathematical models,
translate them into efficient computer codes, and communicate the
solutions with industry and government. MAC-MIGS is operated under
the auspices of the Maxwell Institute Graduate School, a long-running
partnership of the mathematical scientists at the University of
Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. It involves further
partnerships throughout the Sciences and Engineering, including the
Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, the Scottish Financial Risk
Academy, the DataLab and the Alan Turing Institute, as well as the
involvement of over 30 industrial and governmental partners.

Students in the programme will receive advanced training in
mathematical modelling, analysis, computational methods, and
techniques of data analysis, as well as entrepreneurship training and
responsible research and innovation. The CDT is committed to
