W. T. and IDALIA REID PRIZE

The major goal of this site is to create a library of optimization problems
in different application areas in which one or several alternative models
are presented with their derivation. In addition, each model has one or

models that are relevant to problems that can be formulated as MINLP
problems. The site is intended to provide a mechanism for researchers
and users to contribute towards the creation of this library of optimization
problems, and to provide a forum of discussion for algorithm developers

well as performance and comparison of algorithms. The site also provides
extensive information on various resources, meetings and bibliography.

Subject: UFgui Java interface to the UF Sparse Matrix Collection

The UF Sparse Matrix Collection now includes a simple yet powerful GUI
interface, UFgui. The program acts as a matrix browser, with images and a
searchable/sortable table of the matrices. Its search interface allows you
to create simple or complex search criteria (such as "give me a list of all
computational fluid dynamics problems that are real, square, with at least
10,000 rows and 100,042 nonzeros, and have a nonzero pattern that is at
least 83% symmetric, and then download them in order of increasing size
and/or export the list to a spreadsheet"). As new matrices are added to
the collection, UFgui will automatically update itself with the new index.
You can find the code here, precompiled and ready to run on any platform
(the latest Java JRE 1.6.0 required):

The development of correct and efficient software is one of the main
bottlenecks in turning new concepts for modeling and numerics into reality.
While the power of computers has exploded over the last decades, programming
productivity in computational science has grown only slowly. Automated
software generation, while not a general solution, is a promising approach
in certain application areas such as automatic differentiation, automatic
parallel software generation for computational kernels, and higher-level
programming abstractions for domains such as partial differential equations.
This approach makes use of a variety of computational science techniques
(e.g., application domain specific compilers/interpreters, mark-up
languages, operator overloading) to transform one, perhaps high level,
problem statement to correct and efficient software required to address a
related issue. The goal of this workshop is to bring together developers and
users of such tools to illustrate the state of the art and advance potential
areas of common interest.

Full papers (at most 10 pages) are due January 8, 2010, authors are notified
of acceptance by Febuary 15, 2010, and camera ready papers are due by March

Established in 1926, the ISE Department currently has 17 full-time faculty

students. We offer comprehensive research and education programs at the B.S.,

including a 96-processor parallel computing cluster and other associated
computing facilities housed at the Laboratory for Computational Optimization

dedicated to high performance computing through a campus-wide computational

for Value Chain Research, and with the finance and mathematics departments

The Seminar for Applied Mathematics of ETH Zuerich

project on "Preconditioned Boundary
Element Methods for Electromagnetic Scattering at Dielectric Objects". The
position is available for both PhD candidates of postdoctoral researchers,
depending on the qualifications of the candidate.

The position is temporary and limited to 3-4 years (PhD project) or 2-3 years
(postdoctoral position) after a three month period of probation. The holder
will be regular ETH research staff and receive a gross salary of roughly
* 66,000 Swiss Francs (about EUR 41.000) in the case of a PhD position
* CHF 80,000 (approximately EUR 50,000) in the case of a postdoctoral position.

"Computer Simulation for Science and Engineering" (COSSE) is a new Erasmus
Mundus Master's programme in the field of Computational Science and
Engineering jointly offered by four European universities:
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden
- Technical University of Berlin, Germany
- Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands
- Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen, Germany.

Erasmus Mundus is an EU programme supporting university cooperation at the
master&#8217;s and doctoral levels. It aims to provide top-quality European
education to attract the best students from all over the world. The
programmes are offered by a group of partner universities and include studies
in at least two European countries.

Students enter at one of the universities for their first year of studies,
and continue to one of the other institutions in another country for the
