Announcing the release of Overture version 23. Overture is a C++ framework for
the solution of partial differential equations on composite overlapping grids.
Main features:

- provides a high level C++ interface for rapid prototyping of PDE solvers.
- built upon optimized C and fortran kernels.
- provides a library of finite-difference operators: conservative and non-conservative,
2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th order accurate approximations.
- support for moving grids.
- support for block structured adaptive mesh refinement (AMR).
- extensive grid generation capabilities (analytic, algebraic, hyperbolic, elliptic, overlapping).
- CAD fixup tools (for CAD from IGES files).
- interactive graphics and data base support (using HDF5).
- command scripts with embedded perl commands.

Also available are the CG (composite grid) suite of PDE solvers (built using Overture):

Subject: Travel Awards for Intl Symposium on Math Programming (ISMP), Aug 2009

Subject to funding of a pending proposal at NSF (which is expected),
we are able to offer support for attendance at ISMP to selected
graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and faculty members who
received their Ph.D. since May 2006. Applicants must be US citizens or
permanent residents and must be at US institutions. Preference will be
given to applicants who are presenting a talk. Residents of the
Chicago metropolitan area are not eligible.

Reimbursements will be provided for accommodation, airfare and other
transportation expenses, and meals after the conference. The total amount
of each claim will be limited to $800.

The successful applicants will be chosen by a committee, taking into
account a desire for diversity of individuals and institutions. Women
and minority candidates are encouraged to apply and to
self-identify. Decisions of the committee are final. Notification of
winners will take place during the week of 5/25/09.

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
wishes to appoint a professor to augment, and provide leadership in, its
research and teaching activities in the area of High Performance and
Distributed Computing (HPDC). A lectureship associated with the
development of HPDC will be advertised following the appointment of the
Chair.

The School, which incorporates the Institute for Electronics,
Communications and Information Technologies (ECIT), has over 60 academic
staff delivering higher level education to undergraduate and
postgraduate students in Electronics, Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science. Its research spans nine research clusters, one of
which is HPDC. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise 60% of its
research was confirmed as internationally excellent and world-leading.

The successful applicant will have an established international
reputation in high performance and/or distributed computing research as
evidenced by a distinguished record of research publications and
sustained record of research grant income. The individual will be able
to demonstrate evidence of high quality lecturing and will have
experience of leading and mentoring postdoctoral researchers and

The Institute of Solid Mechanics invites applications for three PhD or
postdoc positions. German language skills are not required.

The first project is in the field of high performance materials. The
task is the finite element simulation of coated drilling equipment to
determine the mechanical and thermal stress during the drilling process.

The second project (Teilprojekt 3) is a part of the project DFG PAK 343
(simulation quasi static / dynamic forming processes for aluminum alloys
and steel). Its goal is the development of new moduls for the realistic and
numerical robust simulation of the processes.

The goal of the third project is the development of an efficient
three-dimensional model for the mathematical description and simulation
of the physiological behaviour of skeletal muscles. The research will
involve experimental, theoretical and computational mechanics.
