Subject: Algebraic Multigrid MATLAB Code

The following Software is available for informal distribution.
The code assumes some familiarity with basic algebraic
multigrid algorithms. It is being made available as is.

Name of Software: AMGToolbox

Description of Software:

AMGToolbox is a research tool for experimenting with various ideas
for algebraic multigrid algorithms. It provides the infrastructure
for testing various ideas for the different components of a typical
algebraic multigrid (AMG) algorithm:

1. the Coarse/Fine split of variables
2. the construction of Prolongation and Restriction Operators
3. the construction of the Coarse Problems at each level of
the AMG hierarchy.
4. the use of different Smoothers

It provides simple software tools for automatically collecting
the results of sets of experiments over user-specified
choices of parameters, and for generating corresponding tables
of results as Tex files for use in talks and papers.

AMGToolbox is written in the prototyping language, MATLAB.

Subject: New Code for Stiff ODE-IVPs

The code BiM for the numerical solution of stiff ODE-IVPs,
based on a "blended" implementation of block implicit methods,
is available at the web site:

The code implements a variable order-variable stepsize method of
of order up to 14. Results on many difficult stiff test problems
and comparisons with the codes DASSL, GAM, MEBDFDAE, RADAU and
RADAU5 are reported.

Corresponding documentation and/or references for the code are
also available.

Any comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

Indiana University's Open Systems Lab has released version 7.0 of its
widely-deployed LAM/MPI parallel computing middleware. LAM/MPI is an
open source implementation of the Message Passing Interface (MPI)
standard software that researchers and developers use to enable
clusters and Grid-enabled computers to operate in parallel on a
single problem.

First Announcement: Red Raider Minisymposium on "Mathematical and
Computational Modeling of Biological Systems" at Texas Tech University

A minisymposium on Mathematical and Computational Modeling of Biological
Systems will be held November 6-8, 2003 at Texas Tech University. The
objective of the minisymposium is to bring together some of the most
distinguished members and outstanding early-career scholars in mathematical
sciences and biomedical engineering, who have contributed extensively to
the central theme. These scholars will deliver lectures, with the
expectation to provide members of the mathematical and engineering
community, an opportunity to learn about new research venues. In addition,
the invited speakers will host panel sessions designed to afford the
participants a chance to ask questions and to interact personally with
the invited speakers.

The distinguished speakers who have accepted our invitation to deliver
the keynote lectures for this mini-symposium will be:

PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS and APPLICATIONS
NAA'2004 - ROUSSE, BULGARIA -Call for Papers

This conference is third in a series.
The first meeting (June 24-28, 1996) attracted over 80 participants from more
than 22 countries. Among them there were 24 participants from Bulgaria and 20
participants from the remaining Eastern European countries. In this way the
meeting facilitated an exchange of ideas between East and West. The refereed
Proceedings were published by Springer Verlag in their Lecture Notes in Computer
Science series (vol. 1196).

The second one (June 11-15, 2000) attracted over 100 participants from more
than 23 countries. Among them there were 21 participants from Bulgaria and
22 participants from the remaining Eastern European countries. The refereed
Proceedings were published by Springer Verlag in their Lecture Notes in
Computer Science series (vol. 1988).

We believe that we have created a significant international event and utilizing
all of our experience we plan to repeat them in 2004.

We intend to make these meetings traditional. The largest group of numerical
analysts in Bulgaria is in Sofia. They have a similar series of conferences each
four years starting in the early eighties. The last three were held in 1994,
1998 and 2002. In the last several years a second group of scientists working
on variuos aspects of Numerical Analysis came into being at the University of
Rousse.

Our plans are to organize such a meeting each four years in Rousse as well
starting from 1996. These will overlap with the meetings in Sofia, and thus an
international conference on Numerical Analysis will take place in Bulgaria
every two years.

As previously, the main tracks of the conference are planned to be:

1. Numerical Linear Algebra.
2. Numerical Methods for Differential Equations.
3. Numerical Modeling.
4. High Performance Scientific Computing.

We plan to organize this conference at the Angel Kanchev University of Rousse,
in Rousse, Bulgaria, June 29-July 3,2004 .

Call for Papers

You are invited to submit a summary to the conference organizers. The
length of the summary should not be larger than 1 A4 page.

The final papers(maximum of 12 A4 pages for Key Lecture and 8 A4 pages
