Subject: Revision 6.0.1 of Scotch is out

We announce the release, as libre/free software, of revision 6.0.1 of
the SCOTCH and PT-SCOTCH software package and library for sequential
and parallel graph partitioning, sequential and parallel graph
clustering, sequential mesh/hypergraph partitioning and static
mapping, and sequential and parallel sparse matrix block ordering.

While revision 6.0.1 is technically a bugfix release, with no apparent
new features, much has changed "under the hood".
- Sequential algorithms for repartitioning and (re)partitioning with
fixed vertices have been improved.
- Multithreading issues have been solved.
- From now on, there is no separate "*_esmumps" version for
interfacing with the MUMPS solver. The additional libraries can be
generated by running "make esmumps" for the sequential libraries and
"make ptesmumps" for the parallel libraries.

Parallel static mapping and parallel direct k-way graph repartitioning
with fixed vertices will be available in release 6.1.

Scotch can be freely downloaded, under the terms of the CeCILL-C free
software license. To ease the development, diffusion, and circulation
of information regarding the SCOTCH project, most of its resources are
hosted on the InriaGforge platform provided by INRIA. Please refer to

of Extreme Fluids", November 10-12, 2014 at the IWH (Internationales

The focus of this symposium is on modern simulation and optimization
approaches for flows at extreme configurations, such as nonlinear
material behavior, high pressures, high Reynolds or Weissenberg
numbers or those including free surfaces or particles.

Inverse Problems has become a very active, interdisciplinary and
well-established research area over the past two decades, the same as
Optimal Control. Both areas are closely related to each other and have
found wide applications in engineering, industry, medicine, as well as
life and earth sciences.

This international conference aims to provide a forum for researchers
from the world to present and exchange their latest research
achievements on Inverse Problems and Optimal Control, as well as their
applications. It also aims to promote collaborative research on
Inverse Problems and Optimal Control between China and the rest of the
world. This conference will encourage international collaboration and
interactive activities on Inverse Problems and Optimal Control and
provide an opportunity for young researchers to learn the current
state of the art in the fields and present their recent research
results as well.

In addition to the invited talks, contributed talks are
welcome. Moreover, some financial supports are available for young

The 2014 conference on Tensors and Matrices and their Applications
(TMA2014) will be held in Suzhou, China, Dec. 16-19, 2014. The goal of
TMA2014 is to bring these researchers working in tensors and the
matrix theory or their applications to discuss novel methods and
applications as well as theoretical advances.

TMA2014 is endorsed by The International Linear Algebra Society(ILAS)

The HPSC team at CIMNE/UPC is seeking a candidate to work in the
framework of the "FEXFEM: On a free open source extreme scale finite
element software" project. The main goal of FEXFEM is to consolidate
the scientific computing software package being developed by the
experts of the HPSC team, the so-called Finite Element Multiphysics
PARallel software (FEMPAR), as a successful high-quality free open
source software project.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a BSc degree in
computer science or strongly related engineering degree. A MSc degree
and/or postgraduate training on parallel distributed-memory computing,
or related area, would be highly appreciated, although it is not a
must.

The mandatory skills for the position are: (1) Excellent programming
skills, both in scripting and compiled languages, preferably
Fortran95/03 and python, resp. (2) Expertise in Unix-like environments
(mainly bash scripting).

The highly appreciated/optional experience is (1) Contributor in free
open source software projects, ideally related to the scientific
computing domain. (2) Effective exploitation of standard tools for
task automation and documentation in free open source software
projects, such as e.g., CMake, CTest, Git, pFUnit, Bugzilla, and/or
Doxygen. (3) Compilation, installation, and usage of parallel
distributed-memory libraries.

The initial appointment will be for one year, although it is
extensible depending on available funding. The position will remain
open till appropriate candidates will be found but it is recommended
to apply before the end of December, 2014.

Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS),
University of Notre Dame. The goal of the project is to develop at
Notre Dame novel, multi-scale computational models to study blood clot
formation to be calibrated using specific experiments to be performed
at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Priority will
be given to candidates with research interests and experience in
biological modeling and parallel implementation of computational
models. Additional experience with image processing is a
plus. Applicants should also have experience in experimentation using
biophysical approaches or be willing to learn. Successful applicants

good scaling on supercomputers and current advanced applications in
simulating the turbulent flow around a full aircraft and the turbulent
fluid-structure dynamics of the vocal folds in the human voice (see

We recently received a PRACE Tier-0 supercomputing grant which enables
us to run our software and applications on the largest supercomputers
in Europe, and BCAM received a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence
accreditation, ranking it as one of the best research centers in Spain
in all fields, and granting substantial funding.
