Owing to the retirement of Professor DP Mason, Chair of Applied
Mathematics, the above school calls for applications at the level of
Professor. In addition, the School seeks to make further appointments

mathematical optimization and control epidemiology and demography,
astronomical and other image analysis and in mathematical and

mathematicians, 45 MSc and PhD research students and some 2.5 ISI

Subject: Postdoctoral Position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

The Scientific Computing Group at Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work
on the development of algorithms and their application to large-scale
computational science problems that are relevant to DOE and LBNL. The
research activities will include the development of computational
algorithms on high performance computers for scientific applications,
such as the analysis of the electric power grid and materials
simulations for carbon capture. The current focus of the
computational algorithms is on optimization and discrete and
combinatorial methods.

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Computational or
Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Computational Science within
the last 3 years, with a strong background in computational
mathematics. Some knowledge of optimization, discrete mathematics and
physics or chemistry is desirable. The successful candidate should
also be able to program in C++ and Fortran, and should have experience
in parallel computing and MPI. Excellent communication skills are

A post-doctoral position in computational fluid dynamics is available with
Professors Yuriko Renardy and Pengtao Yue in the Mathematics Department at
Virginia Tech. Work involves developing algorithms, coding and implementing
parallelized codes, ranging from volume-of-fluid codes to phase-field methods
for highly scalable 3D flows of two immiscible liquids. Issues such as novel
rheologies, viscoelastic and surfactant effects, ferrofluid models, and
contact line simulations. A PhD in engineering, mathematics, or related
science is required for the position. Expert computing skills and a proven
background in CFD are essential. Funded by NSF for one academic year. Salary

solving hard combinatorial problems arising in real-world applications.

contract will be for 6 to 12 months, with a possibility of extensions up
