Subject: Algorithms for Approximation VI, UK, Aug/Sep 2009

The sixth in this series of UK conferences, focusing on application of
ideas from approximation theory for developing practical algorithms, will
take place from August 31 to September 4th 2009, in Ambleside in the Lake
District.

This conference will have the theme of Complexity, in particular Tropical
Mathematics, Approximation Theory, Non-Linear and Non-Smooth Dynamics,
Model Reduction, and Wild Complexity, where statistics and model reduction
do not work so well. We will be fostering linkage between these emerging
areas, and classical approximation theory, such as orthogonal polynomials,
splines, wavelets, and radial basis functions.

There will be five keynote talks given by leaders in different directions in
complexity, including

in the section Computational Mechanics and Numerical Mathematics, which
develops numerical simulation methods for aero- and hydrodynamic flow (CFD).

The University of Wyoming Mathematics Department (http://math.uwyo.edu), in
conjunction with the new School of Energy Resources

work on a project on CO2 sequestration using highly parallel computers. The
position ideally will be filled no later than February 1, 2009. We are also
looking for other people in computational sciences to fill similar positions
that will be created during the remainder of this academic year that are
high performance computing oriented.

We are also seeking two to six new research assistants to work in
computational science related areas, including energy research, high
performance computing, and mathematical modeling using remote sensor
networks. These positions can be filled for the spring semester, which
begins in January, 2009.

Summer Internships 2009

The Engineering Systems Department of Cranfield University within the
Defence College of Management and Technology is offering several
research internships.

Student internships are normally for a duration of three/four months
and do not lead to a formal academic award. It is expected that the
