Subject: Adaptive designs for clinical studies

Adaptive designs for clinical studies are currently subject of much
discussion and point to more efficient drug development. The regulation
authorities have issued draft guidelines to this effect. Special issue
(Vol 48/4) of the Biometrical Journal from Wiley-VCH contains
overviews, modern developments, as well as contributions from members
of the regulation authorities, supplemented by debates and comments
from leading international personalities.

International Workshop on Wave Dynamics and Stability of Thin Film Flow
Systems WDSTFFS September 1 – 4, 2006

A four Day international workshop on Wave Dynamics and Stability of
Thin Film Flow Systems is being organized by the Department of
Mathematics, IIT Madras, Chennai. A range of topics is covered in the
workshop and leading experts in this field are coming together to
deliberate advancements, scope and applications of Thin Film Flow Systems.
Organizers of this four day workshop cordially invite all those interested
to participate in the workshop.

WDSTFFS – 2006 is a premier international workshop in India in the
area of thin liquid films, related process fundamentals and applications.
The scope of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussion of recent
developments and future directions of the understanding of Thin Film Flow
Systems, their stability characteristics and applications. The workshop
will highlight on the underlying intricate mechanisms, the necessity for
accurate modeling of a variety of dynamic phenomena exhibited by Thin
Films with an emphasis on the novel applications, current challenges and
opportunities.

The main aim of the workshop is to bring together leading experts and
researchers working on different problems like surface instabilities of
heated or falling film, inertia effects in falling liquid films, influence
of surface tension gradients, vapor liquid interface dynamics in film
boiling, instability and transport phenomena in thin liquid films,
dynamics, stability and pattern formation in surfactant-driven thin film
flows, film blowing of polymers, the influence of chemical reactions,
Marangoni instability of a binary-liquid film with soret effect or human
tear film dynamics. The contributions will report both fundamental and
applied research and will cover the range from experimental and
theoretical work to applications from engineering to biology. It is the
intent of the workshop to provide networking platform for interaction with
delegates from a diverse set of backgrounds and promote global exchange of
information among scientists and technologists.
